Mining Industry Directory of Zimbabwe
Sponsored by the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe
The Mining Industry Directory of Zimbabwe was commissioned by the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe in 2012 to provide a fast, efficient and cost effective reference source to the Zimbabwean Mining Industry. This well-established, internationally recognized directory is used by mining stakeholders throughout Zimbabwe and abroad.
The Mining Sector in Zimbabwe
Mining is a significant contributor to Zimbabwe’s GDP (contributing about 12%) and is the country’s largest foreign currency earner, accounting for 70 percent of the country's export earnings. According to the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the country has the potential to generate US$12 billion annually by 2023 if the government addresses challenges such as persistent power shortages, foreign currency shortages, and policy uncertainties. The Zimbabwean mining sector is highly diversified, with close to 40 different minerals. The predominant minerals include gold, platinum, chrome, coal, and diamonds.
Purpose of the Mining Industry Directory of Zimbabwe
The Government of Zimbabwe launched the Roadmap for achieving a US$12 Billion Mining Industry by 2023. It is without doubt that the realisation of the US$12 billion target creates a shared vision and a basis for an inclusive, broad-based mining sector that uplifts the living standards of all Zimbabweans. Realisation of the above vision requires adequate and accurate information for the crafting of optimal policies that support rapid growth and development of the mining sector.
The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe continues to strive to plug all information gaps and promote efficient mining value chain linkages through the sponsoring of the Mining Industry Directory of Zimbabwe, in partnership with Wealthtalk Media since 2019.
