The speaker of the Mozambican parliament, Esperança Bias, has gone into isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.
Ms Bias was testing before embarking on a business trip abroad.
The parliament in a press release urged all those who had been in contact with the speaker to self-isolate in accordance with the guidelines.
Mozambique’s jazz musician, Moreira Chonguica, is also in isolation after contracting the virus.
The country has recorded increased virus cases with data from the last 24 hours showing that 938 people tested positive and seven succumbed to the virus.
The country cumulatively has 71,634 positive cases recorded since Covid-19 broke out in the country in March last year.
